Royalty Pecans Recipe of the Month: Feb 2013
This month we’re sharing a decadent dessert full of complementing flavors and textures (perfect for an impressive homemade Valentine’s Day treat!). You can find most of these gourmet ingredients in our gift shop and online shop. This recipe was submitted to us by Darlene in Arizona. Thank you, Darlene!
- 1 roll thawed phyllo dough (8 oz.)
- ½ Cup melted butter
- 1 Cup chopped Royalty Pecans® (raw or roasted)
- 6 Slices crispy cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1 Cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 Cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- ¾ Cup Honey Royale
- ½ Cup Old Fashioned Strawberry Jam
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Finely chop bacon and pecans. If possible, use a food processor. Pour chopped bacon and pecans into a bowl and add dark chocolate.
Unroll phyllo dough and place a single sheet in a 9 x 14 baking pan. Brush dough with butter, add another sheet of dough, and repeat until you have 7 layers. Spread ½ of the pecan/bacon/chocolate mixture on top of the dough. Repeat layering and buttering dough sheets until you have 6 more layers. Top with remaining pecan mixture and layer dough and butter 6 more times. Brush top with butter and bake at 325° for 30 to 35 minutes.
While the baklava is baking, combine honey, strawberry jam, and lemon juice. Simmer over medium high heat (about 2 or 3 minutes) until sauce reduces and starts to thicken. Remove sauce from heat and let it cool.
When baklava is done, let it cool slightly and layer fresh strawberries on top. Pour cooled sauce over the top and enjoy!
