One of the many things you won’t want to miss at our Pecan Harvest Festival this November is the Essential Oils & Massage Boutique. When you visit this booth, hosted by local massage therapists, you can enjoy a $1 chair massage with the essential oil of your choice!
We asked the experts for a little preview, and they gave us some tips for using two popular oils lavender and peppermint. See their comments below. You can get more information about these and other great essential oils at the festival.
Peppermint oil is a good go-to for pain of any kind, since it actually has the ability to block the transmission of pain.
Lavender is a universal oil that balances, calms, and promotes relaxation. It has traditionally been known to balance the body and work where ever there’s a need. If in doubt, use lavender!
How To Relieve Body Aches
Headaches • I hang my head back and carefully drop one drop on my temple and feather it back towards my hairline. I do this on both sides, careful to not get it near my eyes. I then drop one drop at the base of my head. If it’s a really BAD headache, I’ll place additional drops, one on the crown of my head and one on the mastoid bones behind the ears, rubbing the oil down towards my neck. This usually effectively blocks the pain!
Back Pain • To soothe back pain, arthritic pain, or sciatica, place 2-3 drops of peppermint oil at the site of pain.
Neck Strain • 3 drops of peppermint oil over neck area for soothing immediate relief.
Aching Feet • Mix 2 drops of Peppermint and 2 drops of Lavender and massage feet.
Muscle Aches • Use peppermint alone or combine it with drops of Lavender to relieve sore, stressed, aching muscles or feet. Massage in wherever it hurts.
How To Soothe Skin Irritation
Rashes, Insect Bites, and Other Skin Irritation • Use 1-2 drops of lavender oil straight on site.
Fire Ant Bites • 1 drop of peppermint oil on site should stop stinging immediately.
Burns or Chapped Skin • Drop lavender oil straight on dry, burned skin. I have personally used this for very bad oven burns. I used it immediately and there was no blister, no scar. I was amazed! I use it for sunburns, often combining it with a pure Aloe Vera gel.
How To Promote Relaxation
Tension or Anxiety • Use lavender any time of the day to deal with anxiety and tension. Simply apply on the back of the neck and temples or place a few drops in one hand, rub together, and breath deeply for a couple of minutes. Lavender also works great in calming an anxious dog. Just apply 1 drop on the bottom of the paws or place 1 drop in your hand and let them breath it in. It takes very little for a pet to respond!
Promote Calm and Induce Sleep • Place 3-4 drops of lavender on your neck and rub 2 drops on the bottom of your feet before bed.
Nausea or Upset Stomach • Add 1-2 drops of peppermint in about 4 oz. of water and drink. Then put your nose over the glass and breath in the molecules of peppermint. In a pinch, just drop 1 drop on your tongue. You can repeat this as many times as needed. Relief should be immediate!
The massage booth will be here all day during our Pecan Harvest Festival on Saturday, November 1, 2014, along with other vendors, artists, craftsmen, musicians, and more. There’s no admission fee to get into the festival, so bring a group out to the pecan farm and help us celebrate the new pecan harvest season!
